Brushing and Flossing

As our healthy smiles program is underway we want to go over a few things to help you qualify for a $50 iTunes gift card! Brushing and flossing with braces can definitely be a challenge. With appliances on teeth it tends to be an obstacle course to maneuver around the brackets, wires and bands. However with a little practice and patience you'll be brushing and flossing like a pro!

Brushing: With a soft bristle toothbrush and your favorite toothpaste, place your toothbrush at a 45- degree angle to your gum line. Gently move your toothbrush in a circular motion. Brush the outer, inner and chewing surfaces of each tooth. Tip: You can use the tip of your toothbrush to reach the inner surface of your front teeth. It should take you 2-3 minutes to brush every time, try timing yourself with a stop watch. Rinse, and take a peek at your teeth. Do your appliances and teeth shine? If not go back and clean the spots you may have missed.

Flossing: Grab your floss and floss threader, its time for my favorite part! Tear off a piece of floss about 18-inches long and thread 4-5 inches through the loop of the threader. Carefully thread the end under your braces and remove floss from floss threader. *Tip: Always insert the end of the floss threader towards the biting surface of your teeth to prevent poking your gums with the threader.* Carefully floss around the gum areas and each tooth. Repeat, until each tooth is carefully cleaned!

Hopefully this will help you succeed and if you have any questions please reach out to us! We'd love to help, nothing pleases us more than a straight, healthy and happy smile!!!
